Hey wait a minute....

That's not how I remember it.

Last week I was happily driving with Jacob clapping along to kiddie tunes coming from the CD player. He was having a grand old time and I was getting a kick out of him enjoying himself that I almost missed it. It nearly slipped by me. I had to start the song over to hear if I'd heard it right the first time.

This wasn't how I remembered it. Did I have it right? Did my parents teach me some twisted version of "Three Blind Mice"? I remember it as "They all went after the farmer's wife, she cut off their tails with a carving knife, have you ever seen such a horrible sight as three blind mice?" Sure enough, that version is dead. No longer acceptable. Too horrific for children. It's gone PC. *gasp*

Now the song goes "They all went after the farmer's wife, she cut them some cheese with a carving knife".

I'm all for protecting children from violence on TV and movies and not exposing them to graphic violence when they are too young but is this really necessary? Do they really need to be protected from nursery rhymes? Dear Lord. I just don't think it's necessary to go that far. I guess a lot has changed in 30 years.

Guess I now have to learn a whole new set of lyrics because daycare and school sure as heck won't be teaching him the "classics" as I know them. *sigh*
